I always leave one of those little sachets of silicon that you get with electronics in the guitar case(s), they absorb moisture, so will stop any rust occurring (hopefully!), and also keep your strings in reasonable condition.

I vote to clean it up...and then maintain your tools properly so they don't get rusty and beat up.

On another but similar note:
It's also physically dangerous to allow mechanic's and carpenter's tools to get beat up, worn, and rusty. Not to mention how it shows a lack of respect for your trade and craft. I've a garage full of tools on silhouette boards lining the walls. A believer in "Tool Control".

Buy good tools. Maintain them properly. Repair or replace when worn or broken.

I was in High School when i got the instrument. I am 38 now and trying to figure out what to do to correct it so please lay off the personal attacks.

A couple months ago I replaced a few bridge saddles that had rusted on my '62 AVRI Jazz, as well as replaced strings that had been a couple years old.

Mojo was immediately lost. I've been trying to get back that tone since.

My advice - if it's for asthetic purposes, don't do it. If the saddles are seized, then go for it.

Yes, I've had similar experiences. Ketchup Crust was the worst.

Ketchup, which I basically despise right from the jump, has an unmistakable 'second hand" odor when it has dried on something, like unwashed hands or the neck of a bass they picked up and played.

So theoretically, yes, but my nasal and visual forensics conclude otherwise.
