Does Someone Make A Db Meter In A Pedal Form

just for show? i dont think so. you can read your gain reduction by watching the lights with the compressor in and out of the circuit. if your speaker starts to buzz around 20db ect, you can tell how close you are to max power while gigging. with the other guitars going, you may not notice the buzz till its to late. and other assorted funny stuff i forgot. not required, but not useless either. johnny a / staind

But wouldn't it kinda be a waste of rack space to have a whole section dedicated to a level meter when you could have a compressor that not only saves your equipment by limiting the signal, but also has the same indicators? (blinking lights in this case)

Ya, and part of the realistic problem with it is that it's got two knobs on the front so you can dial about any volume up to max or down to minimal.

I just needed to fill a space, and it drove soundmen NUTS not knowing what it was and thinking you were putting out that much volume. "Dude, you're to loud... just look at your own meters..." "Oh, ok... here, let me turn down (Adjust DB meter amount)... there, that better?" "Ya, thanks alot, thats much better". :rollno:

But... if you have an open space to fill... it is cool to have lights maxing out all night to anything you play.

From the title - i think he might want something that counts the number ot times the note Db is played.

But seriously - I was thinking a nice signal level meter on the instrument cable (like a pedal) would be really nice so that we can ensure that after all the pedals etc that we are delivering a consistent level to the mixing board. for consistency gig to gig. I am just beginning to search but that could be a rationale for such a device in pedal form.

Well, OP, if you're actually thinking of measuring sound pressure level, that has to be done at a specified distance from the sound source and in a particular way. That means there has to be a microphone mounted out where your point of concern is (for example, in the middle of an audience area). Sure, you can have SPL meters where the mic is decoupled from the display and processor and you have those functions located (for example) on a stage-mount rack.
