Dominic "Forest" Lapointe : anyone knows him?

Dominic Lapointe, usually called "Forest" cause he comes from a small Québec town named Forestville.

I though I'd make a thread about him since he's my bass teacher and he kicks some serious ass.

He's a heavy metal bassist. He plays for Quo Vadis, Atheretic, Augury and does some live performaces for various bands when the offers are there (he played with BARF a few times, to name only 1)

The guy is technical and goes tapping a lot. You can hear some of his stuff here.

You can even SEE him here, the 3 pictures in the middle of your screen link to scenes from the DVD.

Brilliant bass player. I personally don't think Augury would be Augury without Forest's bass style. Its ever present in every song and almost like a fundamental key to their sound.

Can't wait for the new album out in a week and hoping for a show down here in Australia one day.

Forest is bomb! It's true, Augury would be nothing without him. I love in their press bio they describe him as the 'demented bass wizard' haha.... so true. You're lucky you take lessons from him, I hope to one day go to Montreal for a couple months to get a bunch of lessons.

Also, it looks like he is using a form of floating thumb for his plucking hand technique.

Holy crap...

Already been THREE YEARS since I posted this thread. Time flies, it's completely insane. Alec W Conway is my old account on here.

Yeah so, I had courses from Forest from about a year in total, and my last course was about 2 years ago. This dude has scarred me for life as far as my bass playing is concerned. I mean, his technique and his approach to the instrument, it has really been a MAJOR influence on the way my bass-playing style developped.

I've played for a year in a death-metal band and, when I wasn't sure what to put on guitar licks, I'd simply go for crazy tapping patterns - which actually got me the nickname of "Irish Tapping Machine" (since I'm a red-head). Anyway, Forest is definitely the biggest influence I've had in my life for my bass playing. I haven't had a course from him in a long while but I'm planning on calling him again soon. Y'know, a little get-togheter and see where the other is at, how things evolved.

Crazy stuff, seeing this thread actually got me motivated to get courses again!

The bassist (now) from Rings of Saturn pointed me to Beyond Creation. That material is SICK! Amazing lines and bass work. And I also have to digest the whole Augury discography. Atheretic album is absolutely great for sure. I love his playing style. One of the best metal bassist and I'm sure he's great on other styles too. I'd love to take lessons from him...
