not as good as a real bass, is it? i don't know...it's kind of cute. i would feel a little silly with it, though.
Does anyone own one or have played on one? I love the idea, but need a solid review from somebody here to justify the huge price tag.
This isnt anything new. Every couple of years some company comes out with something like this. There used to be one advertised in the back of Bass Player that was just strings and no frets. If you have time to pick up this contraption, you have time to pick up your instrument instead, IMHO.

Well I can't use my bass at work but I know I could definitely get away with this device, that's why I was wondering. I haven't found anybody who has one to give me a review yet. There is no return policy and it's like $170 so I really want to be sure about it, ha.
You could buy a crap bass on craigslist to hack up and make something similar for much less than $170. I would think less than even $100.

I always find that I end up pretending my left hand fingers are strings and plucking them when I'm bored. It looks funny, so only when no one is around of course
I used to drive around doing repairs all day so I made my own pre-internet days, It was great for working on pizzicato while driving=).

This is a practicing tool, not an instrument.
I wouldn't walk by a drummer on a practice pad and say,
"Hey, if you can play on that, you can be playing on a kit..."
This could potentially be a great tool for practicing.
I, personally, do not take my bass to all of my classes
around campus (aside from my music courses), so there is plenty of
time I could spend using the pocket picker and not my bass.
I, also, do not pull out my bass whenever I am riding
along in someone's car. Again... time I could spend practicing my left hand.
There is much time that could be spent practicing that is not used
because of the inconvenience of a full sized bass.
Also, have you ever considered isolating your hands to practice
them individually? I often spend a lot of time developing my right
hand technique by simply muting the strings with my left hand...
Or I could be using this thing?
I have not used it, so I do not even know of its quality,
but just jumping at it and mocking it is pretty ridiculous,
especially if you have not even tried it.
