they are awesome basses!
i have played some sadowskys and i think these are better.

Well, I have one of each and they are equally impressive IMHO. I could not part with either one of them. The tones from each are like the Holy Grail for me.
BUt then again, both were custom orders spec'd to what I wanted.

one thing i feel stands above the rest (at least with the grosh i own) is the fret work. it is fantastic.

i would put a grosh up against any high end botique.

Here's my J4 in Inca Silver. Got is late last year. Still has the plastic on the guard in this photo. It has two single coils in the bridge, which sound nice and fat. One of the push /pull pots allows you to turn one of the two off for a traditional J neck-pup sound . Price is about the same as a Fender Custom Shop relic these days , which recently got a big price increase. The Grosh J4s have a vintage J tone. Mine has an Aguilar 2-band preamp, with a active/passive pot , which bypasses the preamp for a passive operation , and a vintage Fender tone circuit that operates in both the active and the passive modes.

Well if you like Grosh Guitars, you will love the Grosh Bass. I also own three Grosh guitars: a Setneck, a Retro Classic "S" and a Electra Jet with P90s.

Just love it ...more open than The 60's position , less sub and a little barking !
Actually I have took The preamp out and have now a Vol neck/Vol middle bridge + single/both push pull/Vol bridge / Tona.

Just found this Grosh Bass group and would like to join. Mine is a P-style with additional J-pickup. I can agree with the comments above:

- impressive level of craftsmanship
- fantastic fretwork
- best tone woods
- top playability

My finish is nitro in "charcoal frost". Originally it has a tortoise pickguard. But Don send me an additional white-shell pickguard which even looks a little better.

I owned a bunch of high end basses in the past - incl. Sadowsky, Lakland, LeFay, Spector and a couple of others. Compared to those Dons basses are the best choice combine modern sound interpretations of the best vintage J- and P-basses with perfect handling. Juha Ruokangas Steambasses are the only ones that play in the same league. For me the newer Sadowksys are good instruments, but too expensive and somehow boring. But that's all only my own subjective oppinion...

I went to check on a Don Grosh PJ4 for sale, and guess what.... I took it home.
I couldn't be happier, this is such a fantastic instrument.
I've had a Fender USA select Precision, a Sandberg TM4, a Yamaha Nathan East, and I currently have a Music Man Stingray Old Smoothie.
But this bass KILLS them all! That growly and organic P-tone, and a touch of J at the bridge is just tone-heaven.
This bass is going to stay with me, just wanted to let you know

Have always been impressed with their guitars. I've inquired with them a few times about basses but I'm always told that they weren't doing any basses right then and to check back at a later date.
