Don Higdon, no mas.

Dono passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. He was one of our old-guard guys from the early days of Talkbass and one of my best buddies. He had no respect for anybody or anything; my kind of guy and we annoyed each other to the very end.
Love and miss you already, Dono, RIP.

Aw man I'm sorry he's gone. Don did me a good turn getting onto the Alexander Technique and being there when I needed him to help keep me on track with it.
You can always count on epic snark from Don. We are diminished. He will be missed.
Don will very much be missed. We spent a good amount of time talking online and snail mailing stuff back and forth. He was an early mentor of mine by proxy, letting me know who to listen to, fostering my appreciation for Michael Moore and sending word to Michael so we could meet and talk when Michael was here with Brubeck in the early 2000's. Don was even a moderator around here for a short while in the early days. Old school class all the way.
Unknown to the general public and fellow bassists, although we had never met face to face in real life, we were very close and would talk on the phone at least once a month for the last few years. We had much in common to share besides our mutual love for the bass world, jazz, classical music, but especially, our love for the music of Brasil. We were both heavy fans of the great and gorgeous Brazilian singer, Simone, and would not only share YouTube email links of her recordings and videos, but would share who could do the most obscene sexual acts upon her beautiful body. If his wife or my girlfriend ever found some of those emails, we'd both have been in trouble. It got extremely colorful and I found myself laughing out loud, almost to tears by myself many times. He always called me "Wallbutton" from the beginning just to show disrespect that he could care less about learning to pronounce my last name. I loved that and will truly miss his friendship.
Glad I had the opportunity to get together with him a couple of times in Princeton. Beautiful cat.

Many years ago, 10 or so anyway, I had the pleasure of a telephone conversation with Don. He got pretty grumpy on me pretty fast when I happened to mention that he and I went to the same college that he graduated from in the class of 1958. But, other than that, it was a good conversation. I wished I would have had an opportunity to soak up more knowledge from the guy, I know deep down he had a lot to share and he was a very. very intelligent guy. Though I did notice during my many instances of lurking down here that he used to bust your guys stones mercilessly, and like Chris, I got a lot of laughs over all of it. (Wallbutton. Love it.)
RIP, you will be missed.

One time he reffered to me as an "Old corpse". I loved that, too.
Got to meet Don a few years ago at Arnold's old shop. A wonderful, gracious and funny man. He will be missed.
Just found out about Don Higdon. Sorry to hear about his death in October 2016.
