I'll never forget attending an underground hardcore show in a basement, where half the audience left because the band had full stacks turned up to deafening levels. It's a basement...at someone's house...you don't need all that crap.

Particularly telling is that the fakes are Marshalls, while the actual heads are another brand.

I'm pretty sure that's an ENGL ad. Also, in the later pic with Immortal from the front, those cabs are much deeper than the dummy ones in that pic. I'm guessing they're still dummy cabs, but they're not *those* dummy cabs.

Really, none of this stuff is new. Bands were doing it decades ago. Difference is you can do it better nowdays, because PA is better.

You wanna have a laugh at dummy amps, go to a malmsteen show. The whole wall is covered with amps, and it even looks like it doesn't do anything. Stacked 3 cabs high with three or four heads on top, and maybe two or three of the heads will actually be switched on in the whole bunch.

I remember seeing Ted Nugent play a show with the entire stage, from left to right, having Marshal Stacks... I recall thinking "that just can't be..." - it would be too damn heavy to haul from city to city!!
