Double Bass Double Bass Price?

i have been playing double bass for a couple of years now and ive always either played a bass someone else owned or a rented one, and its time i bought one. my question is what is a good price for a bass that isnt crazy, high-end, expensive, but at the same time isnt just a cheap piece of crap? like kinda mid-range

$1,500-$3,000 is a good range.

$1500 to $2000 for a decent instrument from Upton or Gollihur. Stay away from the Ebay specials.

I would say that $3K to $12K is "kinda mid-range."

Lots of discussion in these threads about what you can get, for different parts of that spectrum...

Arco or pizz? Amplified or acoustic?

IMO arco suffers more from the flaws OS a cheaper instrument. And a cheaper instrument may not project tone as well unamplified.
