I hope you are right about wanting female bass players. She went to the Berklee 5 week program this past summer and loved every minute of it - so yes, she is auditioning again for more scholarship amounts. Terri Lyn Carrington asked her to play in her female jazz ensemble which she loved. (she's never played with females jazz musicians before). What a great place! She is also auditioning at the New School, NEC, MSM, SFC and Cal Arts.

So if she has a Mac and gets the Zoom, I believe there is a setting on the Zoom that lets you use the Zoom recorder as a mic into the Mac and whatever recording program she uses will recognize it. You probably just have to install some driver from the zoom website for the device she buys. I did this with PC and it worked. I had a Zoom H4n.
It sounded great. Just remember to tell her to set the settings to highest quality and then look through all the options in the menu on the zoom and look for the mode to connect to the computer.
Now for the real talk, If your daughter is auditioning for schools in New York, Boston and California, I have to be honest with you. Obviously you go to the one that gives her the most money, but for thinking ahead to the future, she will want to go to whatever school accepts her in California first, then New York, and lastly Boston.
The reason for this is because People who go to whatever school for music, all have the same end-goal and desire - which is to Play in California or New York. So remember that the goal is for her to meet as many people as possible, become the best musician she can, and be in the absolute best location for jobs/work and around the best musicians.
Therefore, she needs to 1st be in California which is great as it sounds like you already might be there. California seems to have the most auditions and Movie music and touring jobs and possibility to meet and play with the most famous people, then New York and of course Boston is great for meeting those who come to the College as they bring in major major artists and then let the students totally play with them for weeks etc.. So that is how your daughter can get an amazing experience in Boston. But have a serious talk with your daughter about her goals, because if it's to play with people or make her own music, or become famous with this and that, then she needs to be meeting people in California and then New York and then Boston. Catch my drift?
I mention this because While I went to Berklee College of Music and it was one of the best times of my life, the end goal was always wanting to Go to California or New York, so therefore, why not just go to school in California or New York and be there already..

Good luck to your daughter. There are articles coming out about there are too many men in Jazz today and etc. I'll try to find it, one just came out a few days ago. There is a push for female musicians in the industry. Beyonce wanted an all female band, and the 2nd keyboardist she hired Went to Berklee College. And guess how she got the gig? Yeah, she had to fly out to California and audition there.
