Double Bass Double Bass Teacher in London

Dear all,

Any double bass teacher based in London whom you'd recommend?

I'm interested in learning the full range of techniques: playing with a bow, plucking, and any other relevant aspect.

I have one concern: I have the (mistaken?) impression that most double bass teachers in London started on the bass guitar, and therefore treat their double bass as an acoustic version of the former, and thus play finger plucked jazz and rock, with just a little bowing on the side. I'd like to learn from someone treating the double bass as a real separate instrument (and thus who puts proper emphasis on playing classical sounds with a bow, among other things). Is my concern justified?

I'm already a bass and guitar player with several years' experience, but as per my point above, this is only in so far as music theory and basic instrument mechanics are concerned: I want to fully appreciate that instrument.

I would recommend Simon Woolf - he is primarily a Jazz player now, but has done Orchestral in the past and I have seen him play some lovely melodic stuff with the bow!

Doesn't say anything about actually using a bow and talks more about BG...

I also post on Basschat, and have see him post there. He is an orchestral bassist who also plays jazz, I believe. No personal experience, but worth approaching for the OP I reckon.
