Double Bass Double Bass Trouble. I need help finding a new bass!

A few months ago I got an upright electric. I'm not the kind to turn down any musical instrument- but I think I am. Basically what I am stuck with now is hoping to find a regular double bass for an intermediate level double bass player. I play double at school but I don't have one at home. Can some one recommend a good bass brand for $2000 or less? I need to know the best brand that can fit that price range. Not a beginner bass. By the way, it's my first post. Please (politely) tell me if this is on the right or wrong thread.

Welcome! At $2000 or less, if you're thinking of buying new, then you will definitely be buying an entry-level bass. In fact, unless you found some incredible deal, you'd be hard pressed, with that budget, to find anything used that was beyond an entry-level bass. Your question has been asked here more times than we can count. Take a look at this very recent thread. It's best to start reading right here and more generally here. Then c'mon back with questions.

You can get a bass that is a nice bass at that price; that is, you won't be limited to a cheap piece of junk more suited for the fireplace. But your price range is about where you can expect to find a nice student/entry level laminated bass. You can get a hybrid if you go used. I wouldn't necessarily target a specific brand for your final purchase, but Shen and Christopher are probably as good a place to start as any.

Well first tell me what features you are looking for? At that price range you are looking at either a plywood or hybrid bass. Also maybe a used carved but be careful of those because they could need some major repairs especially if you find one for under $2000. Here is the brands I can recommend:

Shen

Christopher

Eastman

Thompson
