Double Bass Double Bass & Voice Duo - Suggestions

Hi guys,

After a lot of thought I will be starting a Double bass & Guitar/Voice duo with a friend. I have been looking around for ideas, but can't find much.

I really dig the Wood brothers, that's kind of the direction I wanna head. I also heard the duo Petra Magoni & Spinetti, and quite liked them.

I'm thinking to keep it more rock/country like the wood brothers, but would be a good idea to put in some Jazz classics and other well known songs for the crowd. I also understand I have to be pretty percussive to keep the beat there.

You guys have any suggestions who to listen to for more ideas? I'm really excited about this whole thing, from the videos I saw it looks real fun!

No specific suggestions other than to just go for it. My son plays trumpet, and we did about six tunes from Real Books the other night at a local cafe as a break from a set I was doing on classical guitar. My son played trumpet and I played upright - I thought it worked great, as did everyone in the audience.

You just have to be mindful of what you're playing. Among the tunes I remember us doing were "My Funny Valentine" and "Georgia". Walking bass on more up-tempo numbers works well, too.

I should have taped the gig - maybe next time.

Rather than trying to find something that someone has already done, why not just pick tunes from the repertoire that you like, that you have fun playing and that have some significance for you and do THOSE as a duo? No limitations, you can do pretty much anything that you can hear an approach on.
