Doug Wimbish

I finally got to see Living Colour a couple months ago. Luckily for me, the best handicapped seats were right in front of Doug, in row 10. Miraculously, the two people in front of me also left a nice space between them, so I could see him clearly the whole time without having to stand.

I was with a friend who wasn’t familiar with anything past Time’s Up. After the second or third song, he looked at me with a sort of puzzled look, and said, “He’s barely doing anything, but all those sounds come out!” In reality, he was doing a lot more than my friend noticed. He just has such concise and compact technique sometimes that it’s hard to see.

Then, of course, there’s the pedalboard. Sometimes the pedals become more of a second instrument than an extension of the bass.

My personal highlight was when he pulled out the fretless to play Nothingness, but a close second was when they put Doug front and center for this.

Saw Living Colour this afternoon. What a great live band!

Or…it ain’t broke, no need to fix.

That's basically what I was getting at.

I believe he is still an endorsing artist, so even though he might not be using the current generation amp, it is still a Peavey manufactured Trace amp.

I just thought it was interesting, considering he was so visible in terms promotion of the new range of amps, and was putting it through it's paces on a previous tour.

John Taylor was another prominent artist using the current line, but I think the last time I saw him playing live, he was either ampless, or using a different brand...???

I’ll check Taylor out in May when I see him…I’ve always defended his abilities to grumblers and naysayers, but in all these decades I’ve never been moved to go to a DD show. They’re headling a festival coming up. I did see Power Station, but that was more for openers OMD.
