Douglas Fir bass body?

Anyone out there have any experience with a Douglas Fir bass body? What's it sound like compared to Ash?

I know guys on the TDPRI (telecaster forum) have used that with no problems.pretty much have a pine body

I think the first Parker Flys had Douglas Fir bodies. Should sound fine. There's isn't bad sounding wood.

Sound-wise, they sound like any other Fender style bass.

Douglas fir sounds like ash. I own a 6 string Marco J bass and the body core is Ash and Fir and the wings are Fir.

I've built a few basses using douglas fir. I'm a timber framer by trade and had some offcuts from a frame I did out of old growth recycled timber, some of which had nice tight grain close to 30 rings per inch. I've had no issues with these basses in fact one of them is the one I currently practice and gig with. These basses are a bit lighter than those that I have done out of ash and the sound doesn't seem to suffer for it.

Kool but sorry I don't have any clips available at the moment.


But my 6 string Marco J bass sounds like an old school passive ( it's passive) Fender with a nice balanced B and C string added. And to be honest that's what I wanted from this 6 string J bass.

I'm having Marco wire the pups to sound more modern to nail that Marcus slap sound and Bona fingerstyle tone...with the escape hatch of a battery compartment if I want to put in a preamp later.
