Just ordered this douglas and should be in this week. Pretty stoked! Read alot of good stuff about Essex and some mediocre stuff about Douglas (it looks so good in the pic). BTW this will be my first bass in a while. I owned a Squier P and J bass probably 20 years and played other stringed gear since then. Anybody have one that can give me input such as out of box set-up (if needed). I read somewhere someone would have bought but was nervous about a glued on headstock. Is this true or detrimental? I've done a weeks worth of searches about douglas on TB but found nothing in-depth concerning this particular model. Any input would be appreciated.

well i dont have that model douglas, i have its brother with the mm and j pickup config. and let me tell u its a beast. for less than 190 i got an amaaazinggg active bass that smokes alot of basses at shows. let me know how this model is, cuz i was thinking it might be my next fiver. im definately a satisfied douglas owner.
I have a douglas WEB 6 string fretless. My only real problem is that the finger board is flat and the edges are not sanded smooth, so it feels uncomfortable. I am going to take some sand paper to this thing. The strings spacings at the nut are not dead on so I am going to be replacing that too. There is considerable neck dive on this bass because the body is so light. Plan on replacing the strings too b/c mine were already corroding <spelling?> when I took it out of the box. Besides that, this bass does sound pretty good. Btw, I cant say anything about the fret work since I dont have any.
Thanks for the replies and I'll let you know when it arrives. I have a friend who's a 15yr bass vet and he'll give it a good look over. I haven't told him what I'm getting so he doesn't have any predespositions (?) about it.
JD: I read that the frets are raised alittle from dehydration of the neck and alittle sanding and linseed oil is all it needs, but this was also from a 5 yr old post so maybe it has been taken care of since.
Any thoughts on the active 2JB pick-ups?

i've never had a bass that I did not want to mod
of course if I ever get a Modulus Q6 then I will probably leave it alone. Everything else is fair game.but my mom always said that I could never leave anything alone. I mod everything including my vehicles and my never ending house restoration.

I wouldn't know. All I know is on my fretless WPB-955 with Labella flats they sound good and I like 'em!
I have that model in lefty. The strings that came with it were dull and lifeless. I swapped for some DR Lo-Riders and it came to life. Knobs are V/B/T/T. Haven't had any issues with frets. Harmonics ring out nicely. My biggest gripe with it is that the inlays are kind of hard to see.

I love this bass! Nice finish and plays great. The action is a little high but that's a easy fix. Granted, I've had it for two weeks and got my Rumble 100 (15") only couple of days ago. In these two days though I've gotten a real feel for it. It handles lightly on the shoulder with good balance. The two tone controls allow for a variety of tones. The hardware seems adequate, though I haven't had my buddy (a 20yr bassist) give it a good look over yet. But me personally am happy. Check out the pics, also had to throw in my Rumble 100 pic which handles low B fine.

had mine a few weeks, WAS disappointed at first, frets/fret board had some black gunk (protectant?) cleaned/polished that. Strings were garbage out of the box sounded so so and had some rust/corrosion on them. Rondo refuneded me shipping. Bought some DR lo-riders today and HOLY god dose it sound and play AMAZING now!!!!!! Needed new strings was all. Fit finish, wood is like a $1500.00 guitar, actives sound great with the new strings!!!!!!!!!!!! I am buying another soon! (natural this time) Red is a nice trans fire engine red!!! I love it now
I should have said something. I put lo-riders on mine and it sounded like a completely different instrument.
How's the B-string on this bass? The bridge looks pretty solid and it's a neck-through, but it's still just 34" scale. How are the fret ends? Any neck dive?
