"Down-Sizing" to Smaller Enclosures

This is but a thinly veiled prelude to a soon-to-be "WTB" thread...

For the past 14 years, I have used nothing but Acme (B2, B4) and LDS 8 X 8 enclosures...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, the thing that finally broke is me and, as a result, I sold off my beloved but very heavy LDS cab. I'm down to (2) Acme B-2's which will more than sufficient but I'm also a firm believer in redundancies: "two is one, one is none". I need to find a a back-up, secondary, primary, whatever enclosure(s) to fill the void. Problem is that I wish to keep the component weight <60 lbs or thereabouts. Here are a handful of possible configurations which may suit the situation:

* (2) 2 X 10's

* (1-2) 2 X 12's

* ...ummm...that's all I can think of!

Hey, I admit I'm a Mister Know-It-All but I really haven't paid that much attention to what's available, what's good, what's bad, etc. Your opinions (good or bad), suggestions, or bird dogs are greatly appreciated. I'm a big fan of used gear but will purchase new when the mood strikes. Thanks for letting me bend your collective ear!

Hi Riis,

I've been struggling with a similar concern ever since I sold my MB1516. Sounded great to me but way too heavy.

I've been considering Eden 210XST and or XLT, carvin brx 210 or 15.3, Mesa 210, GK Neo and ACME Low B2 (I know you love yours!). I'd love to have a pair of Baer ML112 but can't justify $750 each. Ive been eMailing with Don at LDS about 12/6 cabs so that might be an option.
Anyway, good luck in your search. I'm interested in seeing what you end up with.

Epifani UL-310 or a used Berg AE212, both probably in the 500-600 range. The Berg is going to be FAT down low, it's a great cab.

Love my Eden XST's. I had an XLT as well, but I found the pair of XST's was just the right synergy. They're pretty light, too. I haven't done a gig loud enough that the pair couldn't cut it, and one cab works great for a mid sized stage. I'm not a youngster, but I can still carry one cab, amp, and bass in one trip.

Are you not happy with your B2?
I've been watching the classifieds, but used B2 are very scarce.
The 210XST holds some interest, but they are way over priced, and 59 pounds, so I keep looking.

The B2-III is spec'ed at 48 pounds, which is about the upper limit I want to carry.
I can certainly understand the appeal of a Neo 2x10 in a custom 3/8" baltic cabinet.
But, a pair of S2010 don't go down very low compared to your B2.

No, I'm quite happy with my B-2's...just needed a secondary / back-up rig. I went with an Epifani 3 X 10 which, IMO, is a nice compromise amongst a 2 X 10, 1 X 12, 2 X 12.
