Double Bass DPA 4099 vs AMT SP25B

As (i hope) you can see, I sent the mics line through the circular foam thing that holds the Full Circles white cable in place. I then sent the cable down the behind the tail piece and attached the XLR connector to the wiring below the tailpiece.

It looks nice and neat and everything is out of the way. The gooseneck is long enough to reach the sweet spot on my bass and mounting between the f hole and the rib seems very sturdy.

My only concern is when I put the bass in it's case that it may put too much pressure on the XLR connector. Again, ideally I'd like to mount this the same way the 1/4" jack on the Realist mounts. I actually used a Realist mount to strap the 1/4" jack from my FC onto the tailpiece.

Soundwise, it's really quite nice. I've got it running into the second input of the EA doubler. Using the notch filter (which sounds like it also flips the phase) I'm getting a lot of volume. No buzzes, no rattles. Next gig is Wednesday night. I'll record that so we can hear what's going on.

Just to recap on the mount thing, for anyone contemplating buying in the near future; you might as well get a guitar mount. It is similar to the violin, can be narrowed down to the same dimension but is capable of opening wider if necessary. When you have finally found your sweet spot any surplus can be cut off.

Well I've tried it and the Violin Clip cannot get a secure grip in that area no matter how I position it. The only thing that's worked so far is to use cable ties to attach it to my AMT Tailpiece mount. Evidently all basses aren't the same in that area. Wish it would work. I have a 5/8 French Bass.

You should call DPA -- send the violin mount back and have them send you a guitar mount. Maybe call em and get some measurements first to see if it will fit your bass. I can't imagine why they wouldn't do this swap.

After all, the mounts can be separated from the mic/wiring -- and it's just a little piece of plastic.

Well as luck would have it. I tried it again and voila I got it to work this morning and it sounds fine. Thanks for your support adbass I had almost given up on getting the mic to ever mount. As far as the mount exchange with DPA that was fall back option. Did you know that they charge $80.00 for that "little piece of plastic" if you purchase buy itself?

Yes I did know that the charge for a new mount was 80 bucks. That's what they plan to charge for the "bass mount" although I'm not quite sure what that will entail. I was thinking a swap would only cost shipping.

When I spoke to DPA last week they said the bass mount would be available next month.

FWIW, I'm sticking to the violin mount. It's working fine for me.

the bass mount just clips on to the string afterlengths. nothing i'd be interested in.
and yes, you can use it with the H-clamp. i posted a few pics of this earlier in the thead on page 5. clipping it to the F-hole as described recently in this thread works very well for me and gets it to the sweet spot nicely on 2 of my 3 basses. my main bass is 7/8ths size and the distance from the f hole to the edge is too large for the violin mount so i'll be using the H-clamp solution on that bass

Not sure if im allowed to do this, so a moderator can tell me off if ive done bad...

Im very reluctantly going to have to sell my DPA 4099 mic, because the type of work i do these days doesent really suit a microphone. Its an outstanding mic as you all know and its as new.

Its advertised in the classifieds if anyone is interested.

Looks like it's another afterlength clip idea.

I've tried to keep stuff off the afterlength because I think it makes more difference than the bridge body sometimes. Tailpiece with a small jack hanging on it doesn't change things near as much as quiver but when I have a jack on my afterlength I think it does.

Integrated tailpiece mount and jack still seem like the way to go to me. Use a gooseneck that can get you up across the neck side of the bridge for placement.

same here. i was an early proponet of having more options, but after much experimenting, on my basses the sweet spot is just south of the bass side bridge foot. and this mounting system gets me there no problem. i dont know if its something about the bass bar perhaps muting the top slightly in that position, but that seems to me where i can get the most solid tone without it sounding boomy or echoey (you know what i mean?)

This is just a re fit of something they already had for the 4021. From what I can see it won't reach the sweet spot on my bass. This really isn't a revelation, since they built exactly what they said they were going to. It just floors me that rather than develop a reliable product mount, they went with a piece of plastic that won't get the mic where it needs to be for a lot of bass players. I love the mic. I hate the mount. Maybe this is a spot where the mic works on a lot of basses or maybe the marketing department went with something less than they should of because it was more profitable. This doesn't sound like the DPA I'm accustomed to, all my dealings with them have been very positive.
