Double Bass DPA 4099 vs AMT SP25B

Did he say anything about how it differs from what they are already doing?

If I understood him correctly, it would be something like the side mount that DPA already had for their previous double bass condensers like the 4021. It threads through the after length of the strings somehow. I thought there used to be a picture of it on the DPA site, but I can't locate it anymore.

The DPA 4021 was on an afterlength mount in this pic.





I'd prefer the bridge mounting myself, with a longer gooseneck so I could reach the area between the bridge and end of the fingerboard. That seems to be a good spot for my bass.

well, finally had a chance to play with mine. initial set it up with the mic head between the legs of the bridge, but that was a bit strident for my tastes, so here's what the set up looks like at this point:

human hair placed strategically for scale.

sounds killer.

1) well, haven't settled, but it seems sounds pretty good there. still playing.

2) i've no problem with the afterlength thing. i'm not experiencing any noise issues mounting it there.

3) i may try the bridge, but to answer the question, no.

neither. thats why in a previous pic i posted i used the foam to clipit to the bridge

The guitar version is wide enough to span the width of the bridge, which is probably the version I will be getting.

i'm kinda reluctant to put a rubber clamp around the bridge. me thinks that, by definition, it's gotta choke the sound some.

meanwhile, the violin mount on the afterlength does work and does sound pretty damn good.

that guitar clamp mounted across the entire bridge looks like an invitation for unwanted vibrations too. i like the violin mount because it can go small enough to attach to a bunch of different locations, including the bridge if you want to use the foam like in one of the pics i posted. for me so far that has been the best location, although the afterlengths with foam have been pretty good too. i just got a crazy idea. a friend of mine has an H-clamp. what if i wrap the end of the H clamp in foam to get rid of vibration, and zip tie or rubber band this mic to that? that way i can pretty much put it anywhere i want and i wont have to worry about vibrations from the bridge or tailpiece either. it seems that doing this might defeat the purpose of it having its own clamp, but the mic is so good in its own right that even if it had no clamp and if it were larger and you had to use it with a stand id say it would still be worth it. ill post pics and results when i get access

I'd like a small clamp for the thin dimension of the bridge. Wouldn't think that would make to much racket.

do you have this mic yet? i thought of a way, i just dont have access to an H clamp right now. i'd take off the mic mount on the h clamp so its just a straght metal boom, and wrap the end in thin foam and then somehow bungee the dpa to the foam to eliminate any potential for the 2 pieces to vibrate against each other. im not familiar with the H clamp. is it flexible enough to pretty much get a mic to any location? is it adjustable on all axis?

I have not got the mic yet, because I don't like the mounting options.

I do have the H Clamp though. it is not a flexible gooseneck, but it is flexible in that you can put the mic about anywhere by rotating the axis, going up or down with the mic clamp, where you attach the clamp to the side (C Bout, upper or lower bout), etc.

i've an h-clamp, and there appears to be no real easy way to mount it that way, plus it kinda kills the convenience factor. it is interesting how different things sound on different parts of the instrument. just moving the mic a bit from where it is in the pix makes a big difference, but i keep coming back to that same general location. it is really nice having a mic setup that you can just leave on the bass ... that is sweet. it's got a lot going for it.

Yes maybe, but I don't feel problems with unwanted vibrations. It works well and easy to mount. I tired to mount on the tailplace, it looks very cool, and sounds good, but I find it doesin't seats stable enough in that location, maybe I try again. I think other clip-on mics like ATM350 is much least option to mount on double bass, than this DPA mic.
