DR DDT praise and question.

I've been looking for a set of strings that sounds good for detuned hard rock - tuned to Eb , but then with a drop Db sometimes.

I'm not a DR fan, but on a whim I tried the DDT strings just to see. Darned if they don't stay stiff when downtuned. They also sound good, very clear.

Here's my question: I was putting on the 105 around a 3/8" post, and the speaking wrap wound up around the post a bit. I've had trouble with DR strings breaking in such circumstances, and wondered what you guys thought? Would DR themselves care to comment?

What type of bridge does this bass have? Is it the top-load design that might allow a spacer to be used to move the ball end farther back away from the saddle so the full winding at the tuner end doesn't reach the E tuner post?

For a long time I refused to use anything other than sunbeams but the poor E string fit on a fender style headstock is the reason I wont be a returning customer. You may get by fine without any issues, I just found they never stay in tune the way properly fitting E strings do where only the taper wraps around the post. Switched back to Daddario and I can maintain a perfectly tuned pitch for over a week, with DR the thickest string never made it that long. I miss the tone but im lazy and rather have strings that stay in tune for a longer amount of time.

It has a hipshot with quick release. Although, it would need something like a half inch of spacers, so I wouldn't do that if I could.

the one set of DDT's I used I got around the long winding length by going thru body, still had thick part of string on tuning post.

I've had the same set of DDTs on a parts bass for 2 years. Hipshot light weight tuners in C standard tuning. Hipshot "A" bridge. Hasn't broken yet. Didn't like the sound at first but really nice once they mellow.
