DR Dragon Skin strings at 4 years old

I recently purchased some Cirrus basses that were made in 2017 and sealed in the box until now. One of the first things I noticed is that the strings still sounded excellent. OK, nobody has been playing them and getting oils on them but it's not exactly like being sealed individually in the pack either. The strings were still exposed to air and some humidity. Would non coated strings have fared as well? I don't have any comparable experience, so any conclusion on my part would just be a guess. I was strictly a Rotosound guy before and outside of trying Cold Steel strings when they first come out, never strayed from my trusty Swing Bass 66's. I couldn't get more than a month out them during the gigging days but they just had "that sound". The Dragon Skins don't sound as bright but only slightly less. Let's see how these sound after some actual use. My next set of strings may not be Rotosound.

I'm not surprised they still have some life since they haven't been played. My prediction is that they will settle in almost immediately and you'll hear some decent snap on them for a while. Maybe not as long as a fresh set but Dr has been known to hold up well over time.

I have a nickel allergy that manifests as contact dermatitis. If I play anything with nickel strings I can count on the fingers on my right hand cracking and bleeding within 12 to 16 hours. So I’ve tried many sets over the last few years to see what works best for me. For flats I tolerate EBMM Cobalts well. They are brighter sounding than most flats though and they may not be your cup of tea. I’ve also used Elixir Nano Coated rounds with good results. My very favorite so far are DR Dragon Skins. To my ears they sound fantastic and feel really good. I do prefer them over the Elixirs.
