Dr. Dre Bass Sound - HELP!

Hey guys,

I've browsed the forums here forever but finally had to give in and sign up. Anyway, I've been through countless hours trying to figure out how to craft the bass sound from many of the bassline's from Dr. Dre's 2001 album. Specifically, the tracks Bitch Niggaz (), Remember Me 9https://Eminem - Remember Me With Lyrics 720p - YouTube and The Watcher () have sounds I really love. I know Mike Elizondo is the bassist on a ton of the tracks from that album and that he plays a P-bass. I, too, have a P-bass, but am a novice in terms of pickups, strings types/terminology. I use a 2mm plastic pick. Anyone that give me any guidance on how to achieve similar sounds to how Dre gets it sounding would be incredibly helpful. Basically, I plug my bass into my SansAmp DI box, then from there go directly into my USB Audiobox. Any advice anyone has (whether it be picking location, bass rig settings, or SansAmp knob settings) that would lead my as close to that classic late 90's/early 00's Dre bass sound would be awesome.

PS: I watched an interview in which Mike Elizondo says he used a Fender Rhodes for some low-end doubling on a couple Marshall Mathers LP tracks, so if anyone with a more informed ear can tell me if they hear that in any of the Dre tracks I posted, by all means let me know.

Thanks so much,

- Dan.
