I just put my first set of dr fat beams on my jazz bass and I love the sound. I would like to know what the average life of them are.Do they die out pretty quick?

DR fat beams?

No. They will last a long time so long as you pay attention to the "Prevent Dead Strings" recommendation on the inside of the box. They sound great on a jazz bass.
Most people here feel that DR rounds seem to have the longest life. There was a post about this recently.
These are some of my favorite strings. Also enjoying Fodera Compressed Nickel Round-core strings(Like a more aggressive Sunbeam).

Fat Beams, Hi Beams, Sunbeams if you want flexible and supple strings.
Dunlop Nickels if you want slightly more tension (but still less than any other string).
Lo Riders if you want the hexcore stiff version of the "beams" strings.
The above, IME last the longest!

I use Fat Beams on my Jazz bass as well and for that particular bass they're perfect. They sound great, not too loose but not too stiff either. Hard to say just how long they'll last with everyday use because I have a Squire P bass that I do all of my home practice on. But on the Squire I have a set of Nickel Lo-Riders that I've used for about 3 months and they still sound pretty good.
