I have used DR strings for years and love them. Mid December I bought a set of long necks for the first time and there was something amiss. Actually, I'm quite sure there is something wrong with the particular set I bought as in a manufacturing defect. They are unnaturally taught, especially the D and G strings. So much so that I thought there was something wrong with my tuner when I got them to pitch. Also, theres a weird chorse effect with these strings... Like a weird detuned harmonic playing along with me. i took them off and put the Warwick Black labels back on after cleaning them and all was well.

I emailed DR to report this as feedback around Christmas and never got a reply. Oh well, probably shut down for the Holidays so I waited. No reply last week so i repeated the email. Nothing... No reply. Not even a form reply.

Nice to know that DR appreciates customer feedback. $40 down the drain for some obviously defective strings and they could care less.

I just put some Blue Steels on my bass and like them alot and thats what I will be using in the future. DR's will never touch my basses again. :mad:

Or *call them*...web feedback forms are usually just that, feedback that will processed by someone at some later time. I called DR when I had a question about extra long scale length availability and got through to someone in the know immediately...

those long necks with the tapered core? i think their tapered core may be at fault... had similar issues with DR long necks... and other brand tapered cores, too... sure it cleans up the lowest notes..... but as you climb the neck it does bad things to your fundamental.... nothing past the 3rd or 4th fret sounded right on my B string with a tapered core.. now using a regular low-rider steel .120 for my B, with regular low rider steels 40-100, all is well.

Guitar Center = Open strings are exempt from returns.

I figured I could just take it up with DR directly. Send the strings back to them and let them check em out. Certainly would be easier than driving the 25 miles and having GC do something against their policy. With previous experience, I really didn't want to deal with them. Plus I figured DR might be interested in knowing first hand that they are putting out defective merchandise.

I have used countless sets of DR's and they have been very consistant. However, I wonder if they are now farming things out and this is a harbinger of things to come.

25 miles? ouch, ya it might be easier to deal with DR. I understand their policy, but I think they would help you out in your situation...I mean, they are defective. What if one of the strings was missing/broken/bent right out of the box?

That's how the strings are. Taper cores are never in tune, and those ones are high tension. WAAAAAAAAAAH DR IS A TERRIBLE COMPANY WAAAAAAAAH

Hate all you want people but I've been using Longnecks for the past 2 years & I wont stop. For a string thru body bass there is nothing better & if you detune like I do these strings are a must for perfect intonation & string tension. & their supposed to be taunt! For a stainless string their not real coarse on the fingers & in 2 years I have yet to find a bad pack. Taper wound strings tighten up fundemental, intonation & still provide lots of sweet overtones. You have to readjust your current bridge set up to accommodate the different size of the strings. if you don't do this when you put them on your gona have problems. I've been playing bass 19 years, learn what your equipment can do for you. Don't just slap something on & expect it to work, you've gota know what it dose first & why.

My experience with DR strings, not just longnecks but any DR string, has been hit or miss. Most of the time I get a good set of DR's but 1 in about every 10 is a dud. I especially dislike the coated ones like the Red Devils. Not to knock DR's customer service or quality because when they're on, they're on and they rock, but when they're off it sucks.

I have since switched to Sadowsky and haven't been let down, especially in their customer service.
