DR=Impressed.

I've been using DR's since they came out. I don't remember ever having a bum set. As far as the Long-Necks go.....They are made to go THROUGH the body. This will enable players to actually use a tapered string on their thru-body basses. Other companys tapered strings are not long enough for thu-body stringing. The tapered portion IS supposed to rest on the saddle. Yes, they will intonate a bit better and be a bit more articulate. The wierd overtones is because of thru the bridge stringing......since the tapered portion is extra long and made to go thru the body it will be too long and wind up almost near the rear pick-up. So many people may complain about it..but it's because it made for thru-body bridges.

Quoted for truth....... this has been going on for a long time.

Previous threads regarding this problem

DR really should make 2 different sets of tapered strings, one for through-body stringing and one for top load and then CLEARLY MARK the packaging as such. They really do make nice strings, but a lot of people are getting a very bad impression of their quality from this issue.

I would like to say, for the record, that the set of Longnecks I purchased had an obvious problem/defect. Once again, the D and G strings had so much unnatural tension that I was afraid that they were going to twist my bass neck.

This can't be indicative of all Longneck sets. Heck, the G string isn't even tapered.

I spoke with Tom at DR and he came through bigtime. He sent me a set of 5 string High Beams free of charge.

The email problem not withstanding, I guess I should change the title of this thread to DR=Impressed.

I agree, a thread title change seems outstanding.

Done!!;)

My experience with DR strings, not just longnecks but any DR string, has been hit or miss. Most of the time I get a good set of DR's but 1 in about every 10 is a dud. I especially dislike the coated ones like the Red Devils. Not to knock DR's customer service or quality because when they're on, they're on and they rock, but when they're off it sucks.

I have since switched to Sadowsky and haven't been let down, especially in their customer service.

I've never heard something so odd in my life.
DRs are some of the best quality strings I've ever used, never missed, always hit.

Ever since I tried my first set of DRs many years ago, I have not bought any other brand of strings. Too bad my local GC only carries the tapered SS strings in a 6-string set; I prefer the nickel Sun Beams. Time to start ordering them online I guess. Can anyone recommend a good place to order from? (I know I can just Google for it, but I'm wondering if there's a particular company TB readers prefer based on service, price, or whatever?)

I had a horrible experience recently with DRs but it was the shop's fault, not DR strings. I told them over the phone to put on something "medium gauge, nickel, and cheap" because they were doing the intonation and said I should put new strings on. they put medium-lights (steels no less), and the tension on the E and A string were unusable for me. They refused to give me another pair on discount so the day I went in to record I had to put on the cheapest pair of d'addario's I could get because I was so broke.

Here's a couple happy DR users.

It's wise to re-intonate each time you change strings.

I've always had good luck with Long Necks. That is what the local store had so that is what I've always used. Strung through body on my 55-02's, they have been great. I did get some Lakland strings though and will be putting those on next, but the DR's seem to have such a long life I'm not sure if I want to put them on yet.
