DR Legend Flats

It's amazing how differently these strings are reviewed. Some people say they are very "thumpy" and with the shortest sustain ever, while my perception is the direct opposite (on a P). Mine sound brighter than most roundwounds, they never seem to "break in" and the sustain is just nuts for flats (and even rounds).

The only thing I don't like is that the E string has a lot more overtones than the other strings. The attack sounds more "buzzy" for some reason. Intonation and sustain is fine though, so I don't think there is something wrong.

Edit: Tension is super high, so don't get these if you don't like high tension. I love it.
And don't get them if you want the traditional flats sound. At least not if mine are how they usually sound.

I've been a Labella DTF guy for about 30 years - occasionally would try Chromes here and there and they always ended up just "meh". I put Legends on my new G&L Kiloton V and I LOVE them. I was concerned the 125 B would be too light but once settled in the whole set sounds totally awesome. Plenty of punchy mids for finger funk and pick playing, very tasty top end, solid clear lows---the B string is great on this bass FWIW. I'm sold on these. I'd call these medium to light tension but then I'm used to regular 'ol DTFs.
EDIT: the only thing that remains to be seen is how they do long-term, like how the Labellas just get better and better and then plateau in a good place.

I just installed a set on my SBMM Ray5. So far I don’t love them but I’m going to give them some time. I started a thread to record my thoughts.

NSD- DR Legend 45-125 Flatwound

I have them on a Kiloton V and really dig them once broken in. Have hammered them over a couple months worth of gigging. The B is great on this bass FWIW--34" scale, MM-esque fiver--great definition.

I just tried my first set of these and the E sounded completely different from the rest of the set. I would describe it as "thumpy" with no sustain at all where the rest of the rest of the set had a warm, growly, mid-rangy sound (in a good way). Couldn't stand it and I took them off after a week. I'll reach out to DR to see if they can send me a replacement.

I had a very similar experience with Legend flats. Out of the package the E string already sounded well broken-in, and the rest of the set were much brighter, like you'd expect from new flats. I didn't think they were defective or anything, but I didn't have the patience to deal with the imbalance and play them until they evened out. Took them off after a week or so and they've been sitting in my box o' strings ever since.

Maybe I'll give them another chance someday, but right now I've got some La Bella DTF's on that thump quite nicely and have a nice balance from string to string.

Bought a set, installed on my P… sound wise is ok but the G string felt very different from the rest.

Not nicely polished like the other three strings…

I wrote to the manufacturer, they reply me saying that would send me a new set for free but it never happened.

Bad set, bad customer service…
