DR Lo Riders versus Hi Beams

I like all DR's

I really didn't feel much difference in tension between the sets as described

For active basses I like Lo-Riders, passives Sunbeans or Hi-beams. I like GHS rounds too but these days I prefer flats

Are Fat Beams muddy though? My biggest fear is putting a set of strings on and they are muddy and extremely "Dark" sounding. I like that crisp sound yet have that low end, too.

They are not muddy. They're very bright, almost as bright as Hi Beams but big low mids and more bottom. Hardly dark or muddy. I'd say they're more balanced.

I currently have Lo-Riders on one of my Spectors and Fat-Beams on the other. The Lo-Riders are tighter and I find that they make the neck feel very fast. I also have the action very low with the Lo-Riders. The Fat-Beams are also great, they are much more flexable. They remind me of a better sounding Ernie Ball set. If your bass can be set up with low action then go with the Lo-Riders.

Keep in mind that strings sound different on different basses. You may like a certain string on one bass and not like it on another. For example, while I like DR Nickel Lo-Riders on a Spector Euro bass, I didn't like them on a Fender P-bass.
