DR Rainbow strings

I think it'd cause an impression, for better or for worse. I really doubt that people are going to interpret rainbow strings as some blatant pro-homosexuality statement. If they do, then whatever, I could care less. Seriously, they're just strings on a bass guitar.

Anyway, I actually found a vendor on eBay who sells DR colored strings individually, so I might look into that.

As for the strings themselves, the set of Peacock Blues I got once faded quickly. But the Black Beauties I have on my Squier VM Fretless are still fresh-looking (and sounding) after all these months.

I'm still on the fence about it, but we'll see what happens. My biggest concern is having the colors fade.

DR Black Beauties started losing color real fast. Frankly, I can't believe they'd put a product like that on the market. Have they improved? Do the other colored strings stand the same chance of having their color flake off before the end of the life of the strings?

i have been playin my black beauties every day for two months and they still sound and look good. very slight discoloration between the pups on the e and a string.

By the way you CAN order Extra Life DR's in singles and custom sets. The code goes by color and gauge. You might have to get setup with them but usually no minimums and I had them do some completely custom sizes that they don't normally create for their sets.

On my Warrguitar I created a set that were Peacock blues on the bottom 4 strings and Pink on the top and they look great with the contrast.

Personally if you don't like the color strings don't use them, I personally like them very much, so much all my axes are sporting them. I've been on the pink strings lately, but I'm not really worried that my sexuality has anything to do with string color choice.

You can get a rainbow-colored set of strings for your acoustic or electric. If you don't want the full spectrum you can also order complete sets in a single color. I would imagine that the rainbow sets might be good for beginning players.

FYI, the adjective 'gay' has been used in the English language long before it was associated with homosexuality.

Just a look at dictionary.com throws up other definitions:

Therefore the original reponse of 'that'd actually look kinda gay', is in fact correct and justified.

To everyone concerned about the fading color on these strings i have to say that i stringed my bass up a little while ago with a set of the "cool blues" and after a year of playing them the only places the color wore off was slightly around the fingering areas and even less on the frets. The fade was only noticeable for myself, and if you are on stage, i highly doubt even the people in front will be able to see it. I really changed them just because i was recording and wanted a fresh set.

I loved the sound of these as they had a nice smooth tone, as the title suggests. I've since put a new set of HiBeams on and i got a new set of the "black beauties" which will look sick on my new black bass. Now reading this thread has got me interested in another set of the blues, though.

dude if you want rainbow strings on your bass you put rainbow strings on your bass there's nothing wrong with personalising your gear

and yes the rainbow is the symbol of the gay comunity that doesnt mean if you put it on your bass people will think your gay infact i bet the ladies will love it

do DR do white strings? i wouldnt mind alternating black and white strings even if it means buying 2 packs

She's showing the Mellow Yellow on her website now, and if they're still being made she'll have them or be able to get them quickly. Apparently DR shakes the colors out periodically, introducing new ones and eliminating the slow movers. She's my go-to lady for strings, and the fact that she's local for me makes it even better.

Thanks... I know not every site has the yellows... I think they are not being made now... I just ordered a set of Greens and Yellows from the site... I am a band teacher, and I play bass with my kids at home football and basketball games, and I am making a bass to play with the pep band... I found a cheap EBO on CL, and I am adding some pickups, gonna make the front of the thing a big Viking face (our mascot) paint the back green, and put 2 green and 2 yellow strings (our school colors) on at a time... Thanks for the site...

I got in touch with Scarlet at www.stringthis.com and DR has a remaining stock of yellows. However, they're not breaking down the sets to sell singles, so I'll have to replace yellow with pink . As of the moment, DR is only producing black, green, red, blue, silver, and pink.

Regardless of whether gay means happy, goofy, or homosexual, the first thing I thought of when I read the first post was rainbow stickers on the backs of cars. My gay friends have been slapping freaking rainbows on things since about the mid-nineties, so I guess my mind just went there. NOT that there's anything wrong with it, and maybe it just says more about me anyway, so who cares. I certainly don't. If you want happy colors on your bass, for whatever reason, throw 'em on there, bubba!
