Dr scientist Dusk

I’ve finally made the decision to sell my moogerfooger low pass filter. It’s just so much money and I don’t need it that much. To replace it I’m looking at the dr scientist dusk. Seems like a rad, modern, feature packed filter. Opinions? I looked at source audio but I still like the idea of an analog filter with digital control over full digital. Anybody own one? Let me know what you think!

First impression, it has a lot of cool features and it sounds good. With the internal trim pots to tweak the resonance it’ll be interesting playing around to get those wild filter sweep sounds. Need to crank it with distortion if I can soon to hear it in full effect. Oh also, there’s so many colored lights!

Had the Dusk for a very short time. It’s cool and has some unique features for a filter-ish pedal. That said, the Moog, 3leaf, XD, and MuTron offerings are vastly superior as far as traditional filters go. The Dusk never sounded as resonant or wet as I wanted when used as a regular EF. Some of the phasing/LFO functions were rad, but it needed to be a great filter to make the cut & it didn’t work out for me…

For sure. The moog is the pinnacle of filtering. At least for sonic quality. But also, it’s noisy, huge, not very modern in its features, an fetches a pretty penny. If I was a rich man I’d keep both, but I can buy a new synth with the moog so that’s more important for now. I’ll regret it in ten years, like when I sold the moogerfooger ring mod. Such is life

Well, I liked the Dusk tonight. We started the session by working up Cisco Kid and Low Rider by War. I clicked on the Dusk and did some quick knob tweaking and found a nice tasty setting (see below).

I like it a lot
Extremely versatile, feature packed. Not as deep or juicy as my moog, but way more pedal board friendly. I mainly use two modes, don’t really touch the envelope mode or whatever. I think you’ll dig it
