DR Strings - Issues With Breaking B Strings

Has anyone had issues with their low B or E strings snapping at the post?

Ya, you just need to call DR and they will replace the entire set, they had some manufacturing problems a while back.

Are you letting the outermost winding go around the post? What DR's exactly are you having trouble with?

Marcus Miller 5's and LoRiders. It seems like the taper on the string runs out before the string is tight. All my basses are 34" scale so long scale strings should be fine.

I spoke to the folks at DR and they're sending me some replacements. Man I love those guys and their strings.

DR's are made longer than most. This is where stringing through body comes in handy...make sure the outermost windings are not going around the post.

Nope...never have. I have used Low Riders (nickel and stainless), DDTs, and Fat Beams on my various 5ers and have never broken a B or E string. I did have a ball end on an A string snap off from a set of Fat Beams once. DR replaced it right away. Great service. I haven't had the issue where the outer wrap goes around the post either.

yes. the B string on Sunbeams broke on me as well. Put string into post. Started to wind and about 1.5 winds, the string broke/ came unraveled. I contacted DR and never received any response.


I just posted a separate thread about this as I also had a problem with low riders.

I got a reply right away. I spoke to a nice chap by the name of Anthony who told me that they were aware of the issue and that they were correcting it.

I'm gonna give it some time until a new run of strings hits my local shop. Can't wait to get me some new ones. Having to use Rotosounds... I don't like 'em and they don't like me.
