Just Wow!
I've mainly played NYXLs on my fanned fret 5 string in a metal / rock context and they suited the task quite well! But recently I purchased a 6 string fretless Clement bass and they came with DR Sunbeams.. I had no idea what they were.. I did recall the "black beauty" strings from my youth but I never did put them on my guitar haha..
In anticipation of the bass's arrival (shipping), I thought to myself that these unknown sunbeams may not suit the task, and got some elixirs getting ready to swap out immediately upon the instrument's arrival.
I tried the Sunbeams out and was just so blown away ! almost immediately. in fact 5 months later they are still on and I just got 2 more packs for another fretless build and another to keep on hand..
These are really INCREDIBLE for fretless for me.. very smooth but not slippery like elixirs can be.. a marked warm purrr of a tone with notable brightness .. literally the best of both worlds.. depending on how i shape my tone and distortion i can literally get almost any sound I want, while still playing on butter like strings.. They are so gentle on your fingers!
I have never before fallen in love with strings quite like this before.. this is just something special .. Mind you I play fretless 6 string mainly in a experimental metal format but at home I do like to play a lot of jazz and these things excel in either setting.. Almost chameleon like ..!
Although the NYXL is for sure better for the pop n slap style id say.. more of that aggressive treble snap and bite.. but I dont do too much of that style personally.. especially on a fretless..
Does anyone else enjoy these as much as I do? Also has anyone found something as good on fretless in particular in a less traditional setting (metal/rock/prog)
