Dressing Alike, Yuk!!!

Every era has seen it.
You saw it in the 70s
And a LOT in the 80s
Circa 2004, and still dressing uniformly today
Personally, when the band has the tunes and chops to pull it off, I think it's the whole entertainment package.

We did one show pretty early on that everybody in the band dressed like bad catholic schoolgirls ( white blouse, tie, plaid miniskirts ) and it went over real well.
Anymore, maybe not but it was fun once.

My band used to wear cheap black suits. It was a pain in the arse if we ever had over 2 shows in 2 or 3 days on the road with no where to get them dry cleaned. We looked dumb, and smelled bad.
Unless you're the Hives, or the Killers, and you have a custom tailor working with you to give you that "euro-fit" look like you just bought a $2500 suit, you can take your suits to the fireplace. Not to mention how bad a black suit jacket looks the day after sweating into it for 45 minutes...white salt rings around the pits and collar. Yucko!
I'm all about coordinating, looking presentable, but unless it's Halloween I won't wear a matching suit to save my life. Been there, done that...
We did wise-up towards the end of our run, and did the jeans/vest/tie combo. I liked that A LOT better.
OTOH, I think while you don't have to match perfectly, you should look like you're in a band when you're playing a gig that night. Slick jeans, boots, some flash. None of this flip flops, khaki shorts and a backwards baseball cap stuff...

I think you guys look awesome. If you had skills, I'd definitely order another round and stay for the next set.
You do need to get them to the dry cleaner as often as possible. Or use Fabreeze, that's what it's for. I wouldn't fire you from my club over a little band funk.
You have to look like you belong and you should (IMO) coordinate something. Like have a 'theme' for the band, eg, jeans and T-shirts..but nothing too specific.
Oh man, we should have had an endorsement from Febreeze! LOL
Thanks for the compliments, we did look pretty sharp from far away, but the band didn't hold up too well...musically we were tight, but the vocals weren't cutting it
Nix'd the singer and formed a new band where we'd never put on matching suits again.
I've always wanted to do a gig wearing suits and skinny ties a la The Knack. I think that bands should dress in clothes appropriate to the venue. If there's any doubt as to what you should wear, just think about what the audience will be wearing, and dress accordingly. Biker gig? Wear Jeans, boots, and a wifebeater. Wedding? Tuxes. I also think everyone should dress in a similar style without necessarily matching.
Heh, heh, ya'll got me good. I actually agree that dressing alike CAN work sometimes. Or, dressing in a similar way enough to fit each other's style. AND, sometimes you just have to do it to oblige the payer. And yes, we do have to play some beach music gigs (I hate beach music for the most part). It's just that it ain't really me. I see bands all the time who are dressed nicely, with style, but aren't alike. That's what I like. We do that, too. Oh, but I hate to wear the beach attire when it comes up. I just don't like regular slacks. I grew up wearing them, but not these days for everyday wear. I'm different.
I get the point, though, that some of you are saying. Really. And no, I don't mean that I always wear jeans ansd t-shirts to gigs. There are some I can do it, but most are at least good black black jeans or some kind of more dressy work type pants (I have some green Dickies that aren't cut like slacks that look really good).
No need to look grungy up there either. But, if you're a successful rock band anything goes, I guess.
