Ed Fuqua said:But where did my funny baseball analogy stuff go?
FORHORN EDHORN said:So *****, it sounds like you don't like having a conversation with these guys because they don't talk about baseball enough and your estimation of what constitutes a worthwhile conversation includes substantive discussion of, if not baseball, at least baseball players. And while you admit that maybe So and So used baseball as an analogy in a conversation once, it still doesn't constitute a worthwhile conversation.
See the problem still is, I personally don't consider that a particular TOPIC of conversation is the primary contributor to a conversation's quality. That, to me, comes from the ability of the conversationalist to communicate their meaning. Some do it in such a way that I'm made aware of the beauty of the language, some in the ability to reduce complex ideas to simple and universal expressions, some in their ability to push the conversation in a myriad different directions while maintaining the original thread throughout the entire fabric.
I especially think it's pointless in the extreme to measure one expresson of personality against another. Sure, if someone is not succeeding in their expression (or specifically their expression of themselves gets all tied up in being an amalgam or "impression" of someone or several someone else's personality), then you can talk about the success or failure of that. But to find fault in someone not being more like someone else is just pointless. You can like or not like Jackson Pollock. But to not like him because he isn't Cezanne is just stupid.
