Dropped my Modulus Bass

As a Q5 owner, I'd guess that the neck is probably fine because these things are really strong, but I'd check the frets to make sure string impressions weren't made upon impact.

You're lucky that bin with some relatively soft material in it (whatever that is) was there to cushion the impact on the bottom of the body and the neck. The bin breaking apart is a good thing since it apparently took the brunt of the impact. If it had hit that hard floor then, you'd have more to be concerned with.

I have four wall hangers and while they are screwed into the studs with pre drilled pilot holes I still worry about this kind of thing happening. I think I'll put keep something soft under them.

That's about as soft a landing as you could hope for. I had my cheap Ibanez GSR completely face-plant directly onto a hardwood floor and make a god-awful thwaaaang as it hit. It didn't have a scratch on it somehow, though the clip tuner on the headstock broke.

Carbon fiber necks are far stronger than wood and ought to be virtually indestructible under those conditions (wasn't that far to fall, and fall was somewhat broken up). Other than wounded pride and maybe some scratches, I'm betting it's ok.

The hard points on airplanes are made of that material. It’s substantially stronger than steel in most applications. I’d check it. Sight the neck and look for any finish stress marking but most likely it is fine.

I have a carbon fiber mountain and I can do pretty decent jumps for an older man. My son punishes his bike more to the point that he has blown one shock (could be a shock defect though) but he regularly thrashes his carbon fiber cranks, into rocks at speed. Other than scratches, no breakage. Carbon fiber is tough. If that is a solid neck even less to worry about. The carbon fiber frame and cranks I am talking about are hollow

All of these are true, but at the same time the right hit can indeed damage carbon fiber.

While you’re not going to generate this level of force, you see Formula 1 cars routinely lose bits of carbon fiber when they get up onto the kerbs.

All I can say is if someone broke into myself with a gun and I had to defend myself using one of my precious basses, it'd probably best be the Emerald Balor. Likely more bulletproof than the thickest slab of wood.

Edit: On the other hand, if I were going on a counter-offensive, I'd probably choose the mighty Peavy T-40, one crack with that ought to do about the same thing as this bad boy:

I just did a recording session with a guitarist who had a carbon fiber acoustic guitar. The thing is virtually indestructible, and stays in tune through all kinds of abuse.

Does anyone remember the story of Oteil Burbridge in the mid 90s? His Modulus fell out of a van and it ran over the neck in a soft gig bag. All it did was pop off the A string and he was good to go for the show that night.

That story was a huge boon to Modulus and their folklore. Heck it inspired me to get a first generation Flea bass and that thing was pretty much indestructible.

Your bass is "internally" fine, I go down those mental rabbit holes sometimes... try to let yourself play it and trust that if anything is wrong you would know.

I had a bit of misfortune with my Modulus FU today when the bass wall holder gave out, causing the bass to fall down vertically onto a plastic box, and then flip over onto the neck/fingerboard. I have attached some images to show you how I found it and the wall holes where the stand was placed.

I am concerned that there may be some neck breakage or damage resulting from the fall. While I have not noticed anything apart from some plastic bits on the strings and the bass plays fine, I am worried about possible "internal" damage. This bass means a lot to me, and this incident has shocked me quite a lot.

I would really appreciate your opinion on it, does carbon neck break easily? (easier than wood?) Would I be able to see it from the outside if there is some internal damage? Would I hear it?
As I said, on the outside, neck looks perfectly fine.
It is probably a bit of my OCD but just wanted to hear your opinion, because I was quite shocked when it happened :/

FYI i dropped my Bass, which is a jaguar with status graphite neck, headstock first into the ground because a locking tuner failed.. Needless to say it cracked the bass where it meets the body and the headstock didnt even scratch! You will be fine dude i think

I played a Q5 for a long time. The day mine fell off the wall, I spit on it, used the neck to Jack up my car and change the tire, clubbed a few hipster kids with it, and put it back it the case.
Seriously, the neck is the last thing that needs worry you. Follow the advice of the cats who’ve opined, play it, make sure the intonation etc are still good, and double check any problems around the body joint. I imagine you are fine. Do that 20 more times, and you’ll have a “road-worn” or “heavy relic” Modulus… hahahaha

It’s too little too late, but if you’re going to hang an expensive guitar that’s very difficult to replace on a wall (not always the best idea), you really should be mounting the hooks/holders/whatever right into the center of wall studs.

Are you serious... this post seems like someone trolling. But if you are being serious, plug it in and play it. Graphite neck... I'm sure it's fine!

That freaks me out. I'm a "steel is real" offroad cyclist! I abuse my steel gravel bikes (no suspension) on rocky singletrack all the time, but carbon components make me nervous

Other than you may have some strings that are damaged and a few light scratches, I doubt anything else was damaged.

I know the horse is out of the stall, but when you put your wall hanger up, make sure it is anchored in wood, not drywall.

I bought my first new P bass in 1970 at the age of 17, sunburst, tort, mutes, flats etc, very nice bass. I decided I was going to play it unamplified for my girlfriend over the phone holding the phone against the body like a contact microphone. I always used the phone sitting at the top of the cellar stairs so no one could hear me talk. Between playing it and trying to hold the phone against the body it slipped out of my hands and VERY slowly made it way down the cellar stairs on it's back. It took about an hour to reach the dirty cement floor at the bottom. I can still hear it scraping against the wooden steps as it went down to it's final resting place on the floor. It was all scratched up on the back, was there any structural damage done to it? Nah, it was a P bass.
One day I decided to change my strings on my next P bass with it standing at the edge of my bed with the headstock pointed to the ceiling. I was tightening one of the keys when it slipped over the edge and landed on my big toe, boom! Oowwwwww!!!!!! I had wood screws and washers instead of strap locks on it to keep my homemade leather neck strap on and yep that's what landed on my big toe. My mother who was very hard of hearing was sitting in the room below me and yelled upstairs: "Bobby what was that noise?"

I could tell stories like this all day.

I'm guessing another 4 to 5 inches to the right would have been in the stud zone.
