Dropping the bridge

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if any one's got any experience with physically making the route for the bridge deeper so that it sits in the body a little bit?
I've had this bass for a while now but the action is just a fraction too high for my liking and all of my saddles are already as low as they can go :/
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated :D

what kind of bass is it? if it has a bolt-on neck, the less invasive method would be adding a neck shim. it raises the fingerboard slightly relative to the body, so you can in effect get the strings closer to the frets without taking a router to your body.

I'm sure there are many here more qualified than me to explain the finer details of what's involved. good luck.
