Love the DR DDTs myself. Use them for my drop tuned basses. Everything else gets Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys. Tried the Ernie Ball Power Slinkys and the tension just killed me. Bought a set of D'Addario Pro Steels to try a steel string and they are not my favorite. I'll play the life out of them but probably won't buy any more.

DR DDTs are perfect or Type O Negative

Spent the last couple of hours braking in this set of D'Addario's. I don't know why I do this to myself. I was just looking for a little change but let's face it. These are the strings for me. Their just perfect for anything. Rock, blues, metal.

Dr's work for some of you guys. I'm glad. Rock em.

To me Dr's are junk.

Meh. Some people just take issue with your terminology. I get what you're saying. The D'Addario's are the right string for you. It's hard to come to that conclusion if you have no frame of reference. You tried some other strings, and they didn't work out for you. The same result would have occurred, I imagine, if you had thought to try Rotosound strings instead of DR's. For myself, I've tried A LOT of different strings, and DR's are one of the brands I can count on 3 fingers that keep me comin' back for more, and that's only because I like different strings on different basses. D'Addarios are a last resort, if I NEED strings, and the store doesn't have anything else. That doesn't mean D'Addarios are junk, I just don't like them. I, for one, am happy for you that you have found THE strings that work for you. For me, it was a much longer journey.

Going to try out Ken Smith Compressors, I'm a long time user of D'Addario Half rounds. Haven't found a round wound that was good for my sound. I started using flats in the late 70's, but love the half rounds now.

The first time I heard DR Highbeams on a jazz bass it CHANGED MY LIFE. So..I went out and bought a jazz bass and immediately put Highbeams on it. I love them. And I boost the mids on my amp a hair.

As socialleper alludes to above, it seems like you folks who are describing DRs as "clanky," "squeaky," etc. are all comparing them against half rounds, pressurewounds, tapewounds, and flatwounds. Do you really see them that way when compared with other rounds? If not, your complaint is not with DR strings, but rather with roundwound strings in general.

DR'S are among the best strings out there. You just don't like rounds.

Good points and probably true in my case; the only other rounds I've tried were Fenders and I didn't like them either. I'll likely try DRs again...someday.
