Drum Question

Yea I know we're all bassists however does anyone have any experience using the Yamaha DT Extreme?

It's a bit of an older drum kit but I'm wondering if anyones heard the sounds on it and more importantly knows the 6 outputs on the back and what parts of the drums they are actually for because the manual isn't 100% clear.

We're going to record next week and this is what our drummer is going to use, so any advice on recording with electronic drums is helpful. I'm honestly hoping for simply plug, set your level and play.

Sound wise you're going to get the best results if you record as MIDI and replace the samples with something from BFD later, but you should be able to just record a stereo audio track from the vdrums.

Connection wise I'll have to look at my roommates vdrum kit when I get home.

I own a DTXtreme III, but I'm no expert. The original DTXtreme appears to be similar to the DTXtreme III. Five of the outputs should be for the drums: bass, snare, toms, hi-hat, cymbals. The sixth output can either be used for the internal tone generator, or for an Aux input (in other words the Xtreme can be used as an effects processor). By the way, what manuals does he have? The one's I've skimmed through online appear to be intelligible. You can send the six outputs dry or with effects for recording. If your going to send the audio directly to a mixer or multitrack, I'd set the level on the Xtreme to full, and adjust on the mixer or multitrack. Good Luck.

Yea I'd love to get just the midi and then I can do whatever I want to it afterwards but all I see are 1/4" outputs in the manual and a midi in/out, so having never worked with midi before I don't know if you can individually control each channel (which is what I want, like a real kit) through 1 midi connection.

Well, hopefully he brings me the manual tonight but I did find it online and after reading it, that's what sparked the questions.

Etherian, that's exactly what I was planning on actually, set the level nice and high, as close to 0 as possible.

Basically it will be DTExtreme --> Firestudio/Digimax -->laptop

all feedback is welcome.
