Drum shields?

Yes they do, as long as your drummer is not backed up to a reflecting wall. They are a PITA to haul and set up, though; we used one for a while but then had better luck working with our drummer and getting him to stop playing so freaking loud.

Ive never used them.

But, all you need is a long stick, and when your drummer gets too loud hit him with it

They are a serious PITA to transport, but they work. IMHO however they make it harder to groove with the drummer because they muffle all the wrong stuff.

I hate them, but if you have a drummer with no volume control, they can be a necessary evil.

They do work. A former band I was in used one and it was great. They are a PITA to haul, but if you have "that drummer" and want a good, balanced FOH sound, they do work.

If your drummer is naive, all of you in the band could just pretend there are plexi glass shields... he'll be so annoyed that he'll eventually stop playing so freaking loud.

The trick is to but the BETWEEN the drummer and the drums...

The only one that really works is one that can be sealed airtight. That way you can cut off the air supply to the drummer. They WILL play softer when they see you reaching for that valve.
