Lately i have been practicing The dry cleaner from des Moines. Im wondering if Jaco did that song in one take live. Or did he work his way through the song after Joni had recorded the vocals? It doesnt really matter (either way it is a fantastic track) im just curious. Thoughts anyone?

Sorry that I can't answer your question but I wanted to chime in and say to anybody who is not familiar with that song to check out Joni Mitchell's live album Shadows and Light. It is a joy to behold!

Yes, that was the first take of that version of the tune, which is the one that you hear on Mingus. They had tried it with a be-bop feel previously, but it wasn't really happening.

Peter Erskine came up with the feel, Jaco joined in, Joni added vocals later.

Cool. That is nothing but impressive! Every note is perfect.

It would be great fun to hear the bebop version.

Thank you!
