DS-24 as a DI?

If it has a balanced output with a level control, then yes. It will work even without a level control, but some soundmen freak out if you send them a +4dBu signal. :)

Edit: I just looked it up, and the answer is yes. Seems like a pretty good idea, too, as long as you don't mind the digi conversion.
 
The Digi conversion is what I hear thru my 1515/66's and it's sweet, so woohoo! I planned something right! :)

I thought it would, but I wanted backup before meeting soundmen with different ideas.

Will I need to have a ground disconnect?
 
That's one of those things where you only need it one time out of ten or a hundred gigs, but that one time--you're glad you have it. I'd say rather than modding it with a ground lift, you might just carry an extra cable with the ground disconnected at one end.
