DUBSTEP Effects.

I've got a pretty good dubstep sound from my GT 10b, took a few hours of tweaking.

With the 10b I used both the fx slots for phasers, one set fast and one set slow (like 86 and 14 if I remember) then added some distortion. I tried the synth in the chain for a while but it ended up better without it. I can get all kinds of crazy sounds you'd hear in dubstep with that one patch, doing stuff like scraping my finger nails along the strings and using harmonics, the usual 'womp womp womp womp womp' I get using my low B and the expression pedal on pitch bend.

Most of the sound is in how you set the phasers, and of course the bass helps. I use a corvette with black label strings so it's a pretty deep sound

The Boss SYB-5 gets pretty close. There's some controversy over how well it tracks (mine is very temperamental, but I am running it after some buffers...?), but it's pretty close. The thing that makes dubstep bass the hotness is the beat-synced lfo which the SYB-5 can't do. You can set it up well for a few speeds but it isn't satisfying.

I cannot wait for the Iron Ether Bubble Chamber and the as-yet-unnamed Copilot FX dubstep filter.

The wobble is generally just an LFO with a modulated speed, so it repetitively sweeps out high frequencies, and then re-introduces them. Obviously though, there are mannnnyyyyyyy other effects than can/must be used to tweak the sound further, such as a sample-rate reducer, synth or fuzz, a compressor, or anything else.

A big +1 to the IE bubble chamber though. It seems to be the most promising effect to pop up in a while.

Blitzpulver- you need to get back in here and tell us what exactly you did. you can't leave us with that video and no explanation- it's just not fair!:confused::crying:

sidenote: i can get moderately close running a fuzz into a phase shifter (boss ph-3) by tapping the notes with my fretting hand and manipulating the Rate knob with the other hand. however it's annoying to do and not quite accurate.

OK so question


about 1:10
bond starts stepping on the Low Pass Filter. for the longest time I though that was the Ring Mod.
is he Running the LFO out of the Ring Modulator into the back of the LPF and sweeping the rate with the MP-201?

I think he is using the MP-201 to create the LFO for the LPF and using the gas-pedal on it to control rate. The MP-201 is capable of doing that, so seems reasonable to me.

When I had the mp-201 I would hook up the mp201 output to the cutoff input on the mf101. Sounded the same as the one on the video. IMO I think when he is switching on and off that moogerfooger he is using the ring mod to create the tremolo/wobble effect with the tremolo sounds the ring mod can make.

But then I occupy the cutoff with the LFO on the ring mod and can't do sweeps or I'd have to unplug and switch it for an expression pedal.

All I have the ring mod for is wobbles. Would the mp201 replace that? And allow for expression pedal usage at the press of a button?

The mp-201 would definietly take care of your wobbles. I'm not too sure of the second question..If I'm not mistaken yes you can. You would save the wobble patch in 'patch 1' and then just a normal expression pedal as 'patch 2'. But, from what I remember it's easily a 2-3 second switch so it's not instant as you would either have to rotate the knob or you switch patches through the foot switches (which takes a bit longer). You should message John Davis as he has extensive knowledge on the mp-201. Maybe he can chime in.

I'm getting pretty good results using 3 pedals in this order:

EH bass micro synth (octave down, square wave, bunch of reso, start and stop to taste)

Pigtronix EP2 (using envelope follower and LFO together w/ expression pedal for speed!)

Homebrew THC chorus (depth and width cranked, speed to taste)

Just takes some good footwork
