Dumb Genz Benz Shuttle question...

Hi!

I just got a great deal on a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. So I'm testing this at home with earphones (I have to sell a kidney to afford the cab after buying the Shuttle :)) I notice that I'm turning on the LIMIT light a lot. Mainly when slapping on the E string.

So my dumb question is: Does this have a negative effect on the amplifier, am I hurting the amp, or is it just for information purposes?

(other than that, LOVE this amp. So tiny and light, so much crisp power at my fingertips...)

What cab are you using and what is the total Ohms load of that cab... ?
The amp loves a 4 ohm load.. If you are running higher at 8 ohms ( one 8 ohm cab ) you are not getting the full potential of that amp....

Headphones at home - can't afford the cab until I sell one of my basses :)

There's a 4x10 4 Ohm cab in the practice space we rent with the band that should let me nicely and beautifully make my guitar players' ears bleed as payback for all my years of underpowerment :)

A 410 will get pretty loud at 4 ohms.
You are hitting the LIMIT light with Headphones.. HOLY Cow!!! Are you blowing your head off?
What kind of headphones are they? You dont have a short in the cabling do you?

They're just cheap Philips cans... shp1900. Maybe the headphone output is very damped? I had to turn up to 12:00 the master volume to hear myself properly, whereas when I tested the amp at the store with the GB NEOX2x10 I was at 9:00 and on the brink of bringing down the windows. Hmmm...


...so I went and tried it with another pair of earphones (cheap Sony earbuds, the kind you'd use with an mp3 player) and I do get good volume at 9:00 with them. Seems like my Philips cans are waayyyy too power-hungry.

Sounds like your cheap headphones don't have the kind of sensitivity typical of normal headphones or ear buds in the market. You want to be careful, it's possible to damage cheap headphones at high levels like that as they are not usually built very robustly.

Just back off on the levels a little bit and see if you can make that work.

Thanks, I will.

I really like those cheap headphones for recording and playing bass, their lack of sensitivity makes them not boom/bottom out like regular headphones due to the lack of the usual bass-happy response curve found in consumer headphones (I know I should buy monitor headphones, but I have to save for the cab)

/another reason I love my Genz Benz... I ask dumb questions and I get answers from Genz Benz engineers :D
