Hey Talkbass! have just strung my Fender P-elite with the stainless steel Dunlop Super Bright's and really digging them! after the initial grippyness goes they are fantastic feeling and sounding strings! Anyone else here using them and have any clips to share? Regards, Bill.
You've made me want to try them again! I had a set on my Peavey Cirrus a couple of summers ago and thought they were just okay but that sounds great! Solid playing as well! Best wishes, Brent
Thankyou! I actually have tried the nickel strings and personally don't get on with the feel?? I supposed I've always played stainless steel so am so used to feeling them under my fingers!
Good point, I forgot that some folks like the SS feel. My fingertips were thrilled when I quit using RotoSounds about 20+ years ago!
Haha, I was using the Rotosounds for years also! tore my fingers up, but at the same time built some strong callouses!
Very nice. I always wondered why the fender elite P, had a jazz PU in the back. I like it and the strings and you sound good on that bass.
What's your signal chain, and eq settings used? That doesn't sound like super brights to me with flat eq and minimizing color by the amp, mic, etc., as much as possible. Super brights are nice though. I loved the balanced tension feel, but the upper harmonics were too rich for me. Those strings ring like bells. If I was not playing a traditional bass role, but being the center point for melody like soloing, I would use these.
Bass was plugged straight into the MacBook using a small Apogee Jam, tiny bit of EQ and compression in GarageBand! yeah they are quite zingy and grippy to start with, but I love the sound and feel of them after a few days wear, they end up with a smooth punchy sound once you've put the hours in on them!
Hiho I love super bright steels.I use them on all my basses now. Love the feel, tone and they last for a long time. Perfect for me
Ring like bells, that's a great description. I love these strings on my fretless jazz. They absolutely sing. Sustain for days. Nice playing Bill Banwell!
