Dunn Effects Death Knob (HM-2 thing)

A little about the pedal......

Designed to blend the “chainsaw” effect of the gyrating EQ into your signal, the Death Knob can be used in series with any OD, fuzz or distortion. Essentially it adds the buzzsaw texture of the HM-2 with both Hi and Lo controls set to max into your existing distortion. Use the blend control to add just a little on top, or turn it all the way up for maximum effect. EQ trim pots come set to max by default; feel free to adjust them to your taste.

External Controls:
Blend - wet/dry mix knob

Internal Controls:
Hi - high freq tone control
Lo - lo freq tone control
Gain - overall gain of the clean blend

Anyone try one of these with their set up yet? I'm really intrigued. While normally I'm a set it and forget it kind of person, I do think the trim pots should have been on the outside here, but I get the reason for the simplicity. I only found one video example with bass and it wasn't great. However I feel like this has a lot of potential for bass distortion. I really wanna try one with my Curmudgeon. I am loathe to buy anything on a whim though.

I’ve been keeping my eye out for a HM2 style distortion with blend. I way pretty tempted by Decibelics Angry Swede but just ended up ordering a Jugendstil from God City. I think the sweepable mids were the selling point for me.

I'm kind of terrified of guitar based pedals. Most of the time they don't work out for bass. I really like most of the GCI stuff. Kurt obviously has a very good and experienced ear. I am just really curious how this would sound as an extra boost thing with my Damnation Audio pedal.

Totally. The exact reason I was looking for an HM2 with a blend function. I’m also really interested in it as an added EQ-able layer.

GCI does make a bass specific HM2 inspired pedal. No idea when they’ll produce more though. I pounced on the latest drop and got the Jugendstil and Onslaught.

Part of me feels like a fool knowing that Kurt makes almost anything sound good.

There is that problem. I loooove the Onslaught clank feel. Once again, kinda scared to grab anything made for a guitar. I wasn't aware of the Bass HM-2 thing. I think the reason why I like the Dunn Effect thing is that it just applies that EQ preset which is also changeable with the internal trim pots. This way you maintain most of the character of whatever distortion you are using, but that HM-2 eq just boosts things in a desirable way. At least I would hope it does.

Hm, yeah I’m not sure how to interpret they’re description. If it’s just an EQ control with a blend I’d pass.

You could just get a Source Audio EQ2 and program those exact frequencies to boost, and it could do about a billion other things as well.
