Double Bass E-Prime Challenge

More fun assessing reality - Aleister Crowley spent a month jabbing himself with a pin (Robert Anton Wilson substituted biting himself on the thumb) every time he used the first person pronoun (I, me, my, mine etc). You find out really quickly how much you talk about yourself.

I think you guys already failed at the challenge. The verb "to be" already gets littered in your posts throughout this thread. :D

See? I did it right. :hyper:

I don't think I could do it while speaking. I feel like I have a bit of a mind-**** just trying to avoid writing it in this particular post.

Oooo.....and look at the way he (Crowley) turned out!

How do you discuss age? For example:

"I am 29 years old."

How do I say that in E-Prime?

I am dumb.

I think you mainly acknowledge the abitrary and man-made nature of our calendar. Dig the Zappa tune 'the adventures of gregory pechary'. As a fairly novice user my advice *is* to not totally remove the word but rather think how we use it in speech. Recognizing the use, as not to overuse, seems key to me.

Hey. Sr P. *are* you pc-ing on my thread? Don't make me come over there.

I haven't been doing it for too long, and my wife already expressed her desire to leave me. A conversation that once took 3 minutes now takes about 15 while I stop and review my sentences for the verb in question. I predict this experiment will end poorly for me.

Here in Wisconsin we have unique conjugations of the verb "to be." I have heard more than one person say:

"Is what it is, is, it's"

For instance, if you are talking about the Packers, you might say:

"Is what it is, is, it's going to be hard for da Packers to beat da Bears today."

"Is you is, or is you ain't my baby":D

C'mon fingers, lighten up!:) This certainly not worth coming to blows over.

Or are you a fan of that monster Crowley? I hope not. Please say it isn't so.

All good. I'm an Italian from the south side of Chicago. I remember the first time I brought my wife to a family party. She was sure there was going to be a fight. I told her "Oh, that was normal. You have to worry when people stop talking to eachother"

Don't really know much about Crowley other than what I've read in Robert Anton Wilson's writing. I think, on the other hand, that Wilson was a brilliant man.

Cool! Well not being Italian..... one of my gigs is playing with an Tarantino, Caffe Liscio, Sicilian, Cafe Musette ect, group.....we once were hired to play "Godfather Theme" for Francis Ford Coppola's private birthday.....he was pissed off because it was raining on his cake. Talk about "Mal Occhio".:help:

Don't know much about Wilson, though a peek at his Wiki is interesting.

Here's hoping the thread can get back on the original track...:)

Start with the Schrodinger's Cat Trilogy for his fiction stuff. The Illuminatus! Trilogy *is* commonly thought of as his most classic fiction work but it took me months to read and I had to read it a second time and plan to a third someday. Pretty involved. A bit more of an undertaking.

I liked Ishtar Rising the most of his non-fiction but Prometheus Rising *is* the reworking of his dissertation.

A quote especially poignant when thinking about TBDB:

"I have never experienced another human being. I have experienced my impressions of them." -Robert Anton Wilson
