E string is too long for Fender Jazz

Thanks for the info.

I should point out some of the info is outdated by several years.

GHS Short Scale should read 32.75".
GHS Medium Scale should read 35.5".

Yeah, just pissed off......i really want to use pressurewounds on this bass, but the open E sounds like crap compared to my other basses. Wish GHS made these in "medium" scale.

My Am Perf P bass is not. Meat of string is wrapped. It looks like crap, sounds like crap, and E wont stay in tune. Same strings on all 3. The E string is notably poopie sounding compared to the others. No matter what brand i try, E sounds like crap and wont stay in tune.

What kind of bridge does your Am Performer P have? Is it the type you might be able to use a spacer to move the ball end farther down? Like the one on my Highway One J with the BAII bridge that I was showing you in another thread.

Yeah, it has the standard fender bridge. The Am. Performer series is pretty much the Highway 1 renamed. Love that. greasebucket.

I am honestly thinking of taking to my guy to install the ultra string through bridge.

Highway 1 became Highway One when it was upgraded in 2006, then came "American Special", and now "American Performer". Now I understand the lineage.

I also own a 2014 American Special Limited Edition Sandblasted Jazz. That one is wearing DR Hi Beams, which are even longer at 37.75" in winding length. Again, no issue whatsoever.

Well just ordersed a set of GHS Brite Flats Medium Scale. Reported to be 35.5" winding lenght. That put the start of taper/silk 1/4 inch past the nut if my tape measure is accurate. My only concern is if the G string will be long enough ...

I'll let you know once one in case you are curious..

Yes, I'm always curious... ;)

Something you should know... The winding length of 35.5" by GHS is measured from the bottom of the ball end to the taper (= end of full winding). The length to the start of silk may be shorter than 35.5" because the silk typically covers the last quarter inch or so of the full winding.

Well, just got the E string on and it fits......just past nut. Will have a little more room after it stretches some

Thanks for the Wednesday night chuckle. My strings are too long! :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: Truly a first world problem. Been wrapping a portion of the fat part of E strings (many different brands, including flatwounds) around the tuner post for 40 years. Exactly zero have had problems.
