E String Playing Problems!

Hey guys only joined this site recently have to say its brilliant!
Anyways, I find I have a problem when playing the E string on my bass, I find myself tripping over it almost when playing, as if im hitting it too hard, I adjust the action on all my basses so the E string is much higher than the others so i avoid buzz etc.
I was thinking of moving to a 5 string to resolve this problem (mainly because when i play with the floating thumb technique i have no issues and seem to play a lot better).
Has anyone got any suggestions?

Play using the floating thumb technique. You play better, it sounds better, no B string needed. I think all other things being equal, it's the best right hand technique to use.

yeah cool man i was thinking of getting a ramp between my two pups for more support with my thumb also to help with the problem, thanks!

Ramps are cool. I would highly recommend not having your e-string to high off the board. unless there is a nasty setup problem. Setting up like that could cause some playing and tone problems, with both hands.
