I dated a girl from D.C. in college and she was way into Go Go. She ruined me in so many ways for so many reasons.
Didn't hear it all yet, but there's some super catchy stuff going on.
Go-go is probably my favorite style of funk, post-1970s.
I moved to the DC area from Texas around 5 years ago, and before that I had no idea that Go Go even existed. You hear it everywhere here, it’s such a great part of the DMV culture. Glad to see it’s getting some national attention!
nice to see Sugar Bear sporting that awesome Spector. I work in the same building as him occasionally here in the Northern VA area too
I spent an intense go-go fueled night in D.C. in 2008. First I saw Chuck Brown, Backyard and a couple of other acts I can't think of off the top of my head (CCB might have been one of them) at the Go-Go Awards ceremony and then I caught an after-party double bill of E.U. and Rare Essence. It was a trip.
It's amazing how well loved go-go is in DC compared to how obscure it is everywhere else in the US. I can't think of any other music genre as hyper-local as go-go.
That was tight. Proof that us old cats can still bring it!!
I learned about Go Go from the Punks. Minor Threat played their last show with Trouble Funk.

This would have been nice to see Ndegeocello join them . She was big on the go go scene as well.
I’d love to hear Meshell playing go-go, but she seems to have moved way past that stage of her life.
