EADC tuning of a five string Precision bass

Hi all. Just a quick inquiry:

Does anyone in here have experience with/or know of any recordings or youtube clips using a Fender Precision 5 string bass with a higher EADGC tuning? If so please post any clips or share any experiences you may have had doing this. I have a 5 string Precision that used to be my workhorse and am thinking of trying this out since it has such a lovely voice as a solo instrument. Looking forward to hearing any sound clips or reading about your experiences. Thanks in advance.

Check out Janek Gwizdalas Youtube channel, he recently posted a video about his new E to C five string, although it's a double reverse P, so I'm not sure how helpful that is to you. But I agree, it's a cool sound. One of the reasons I desperately want a six string P bass (I still need that low B).

My EADGC 5-string isn't a P-bass but that tuning is becoming more and more common and it's fantastic for solo work. Matthew Garrison plays most, if not all, of his material in that tuning.

Victor Wooten doesn't use it much anymore but he did play Yin Yang (both versions) on his EADGC Fodera.

I had my Squier P VM tuned to EADGC for a while. My friend asked me over to record bass for an original song of his, and we ended up using a bass solo in the song instead of guitar or keys, just because I had that range more easily available.

I'm sure it's good that I can't find the song I did as I don't think it would compare too favorably with the players suggested above!

I also thought it was terrific fun for harmonics since you end up with new natural harmonic notes.

Not a 5, but I did some solo bass tunes for a church tuning a Squier Pbass to ADGC. I actually really liked the sound of a Pbass with a high C string.

I’ve tuned my 5 string to EADGC before and I’ve found it pretty useful. For solo, of course, but having the low E still keeps it a bass. Also, in the groups I play, I’ve found it useful to comp with chords in spots where necessary and don’t think an octave up pedal would be appropriate.

I suppose EADGC could work. You can always try it, but it may require re-intonting the bass? I've been taking some jazz improv lessons and decided I wanted a C string but didn't want to use any other bass for it. I thought it would be too much of a pain to go through. But I came across an Ibanez SR506 six string that the seller accepted $300 and that solved the C string issue. I previously had an Ibanez Gio that I didn't play much and sold for $275. I couldn't pass up the SR506 for that price.
