EADGC five string

If you want to try something different on your 4-string, try tuning it E-A-D-Gand see what you think. It's an interesting alternate tuning to explore.

If you do a lot of 'lyrical' or melody-style playing, it can make many things feel easier to play - although you'll lose that nice finger pattern symmetry the standard ascending 4th bass tuning gives you.
 
I'm considering doing this to one of my old Washburn 5's. When I talked to my luthier, he suggested replacing the nut to match the strings, he did indicate it wasn't strictly necessary, but it was his strong recommendation. My counter was "Meh, I'm thinking zero fret instead."

Stupid mouth, always finding ways to give the luthier more work...
