Does anyone know whete to get a cheap EADGC five string, not BEADG
thanks
"A 5-string bass."and what is it called exactly?
You can string up most any V string E A D G C rather than B E A D G. I did with mine, no problem. You usually don't even have to do anything to the nut; just get the C string.
I don't know a special name for a bass strung like this.
By the way, I got this one:

nd how does one willy nilly adjust the intonation? It's usually called "High-C Bass" tuning. It doesn't require a special 5-string bass instrument. All you need to do is change strings. Pick yourself out a set here. Most times your existing nut will work just fine without any modification needed. Just restring, tune up, correct the intonation, and you're good to go. A truss rod adjustment is seldom needed.
FWIW, I alternate back and forth on my Spector. Never had a problem. It just works.

That is exactly the tuning I play.
It's called 'Tenor 5' Tuning, for bass 'tenor' is usually used to describe a tuning up a fourth.
a four ADGC (Victor Wooten)
a five EADGC (Steve Swallow, Matt Garrison, Jaco Pastorius)
a six EADGCF (John Patitucci used this on a few tracks).
a seven EADGCFBb (Eric Czar)
I use a regular Ibanez Soundgear that I changed the nut on to fit the strings better. Any bass can be changed to these configurations.
I think the first fender five string was tuned this way, it had less frets so there was no extra range. Jaco also had an five string acoustic bass guitar tuned this way .
Absolutely.wow thats interesting. so i could convert a four string acoustic to ADGC?
Absolutely.
Yeah I think it's ADGBb. I think he drops the low string for Ari's Eyes GDGC.
